THE COLLECTION
THE VIBE
Fluid. Organic. Harmonious.
For Spring 2025, Nicky Zimmermann leans deeper into her upbringing in Southern Sydney, incorporating elements of Australia’s iconic surf culture and references to the sea into her vision of flowing, floral femininity.
The creative director was particularly inspired by filmmaker and photographer Albe Falzon, whose 70s and 80s surf films would play at her local town hall. Without taking the inspiration too literally, Zimmermann makes use of prints drawn from souvenir shirts and local flora, as well as earthy craft techniques like crochet, raffia, and beading. The slouchy, fluid, oversized silhouettes take a cue from the relaxed outlook of surf subculture.
The natural world of sea and sun with which surfers commune also forms a major inspiration throughout. Fluidly ruffled trims echo the endless rhythm of waves against the shore; the color palette’s shift from blue and beige through soft reds, golds, and purples follows the transit of the sunrise over water.
THE DIRECTION
THE QUOTE
For Spring we were inspired by Albe Falzon’s beautiful 70s surf film, Morning of the Earth. The film is a celebration of free-spirited surfers whose passion brought them closer to nature. It’s so visually stunning – the way it captures the golden morning light and the colour of nature is just so inspiring. We leant into the aesthetics of the film more than surf itself – the irresistible way the film captures dappled light, the flowing movement of the sea and that feeling of harmony between surfer and nature.”
THE WRAP UP
Nicky Zimmermann has a knack for selecting collection themes that organically extend and deepen her penchant for expansive high-femme delicacy. While the brand is still anchored by her dramatic and delicate dresses, she also continues to do great work in rounding the brand out with other, more casual offerings, and here these categories nicely cohere into a single narrative of surf, sun, and freedom.
