Review of Gucci x Adidas Spring 2022 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Christopher Simmonds with Photographer Carlijn Jacob with models Aivita Mūze, Albert Beilinson, Aouatif Saadi, Cedric Sanvee, Ebony Francisco…
Gucci and Adidas celebrate the imminent launch of their collaborative collection with a bright and nostalgic new campaign captured by photographer Carlijn Jacobs.
First debuted as part of the Exquisite Gucci Fall 2022 show, the collaborative collection – marking only the second time during creative director Alessandro Michele’s tenure at Gucci that he’s collaborated with another brand, after The North Face – is dropping on June 7th.
Ahead of the launch, the collection is celebrated in Jacobs’ fresh and retro-inflected set of campaign imagery. The simple portraits pit eclectic Gucci characters against bright solid backdrops, keeping things relatively minimal with just a few vintage-feeling sport props to put the focus squarely on the inventive synthesis of 70s-esque Gucci codes with Adidas’ modern sportswear practicality.
The accompanying short film furthers the personality of the portraits by filling them with motion and setting them to music. Voiceovers from the models as they reflect on identity and action toe the line between philosophical nuggets of wisdom and eccentric nonsense, a fitting balance for the collection’s quirky and colorful style.
While the two collaborators might feel rather different, the collection and its campaign convince us that they are a match made in retro-country-club heaven.
