In A Narrow Field Of Similar Nominees To Last Year’s Awards, The CFDA Celebrated The Best Of American Fashion For Their 60th-Year Anniversary
The Council of Fashion Designers of America has announced the winners of the 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards.
The nominees echoed those of last year’s nominees for both the lead Womenswear and Menswear designer of the year, rotating in/out just one nominee in each of those perspective categories. The breath of nominations is no fault of the CFDA itself as the nominations for each award category were submitted by the CFDA Fashion Awards Guild, made up of members of the CFDA, along with top fashion retailers, journalists, and stylists.
The 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards were hosted by actress Natasha Lyonne at Cipriani South Street at Casa Cipriani in Manhattan. To mark the CFDA’s 60th anniversary, the awards were co-hosted by CFDA members Joseph Altuzarra, Gabriela Hearst, Aurora James, Lazaro Hernandez, and Jack McCollough.
Christina Ricci presented the American Womenswear Designer of the Year award to Catherine Holstein for Khaite. Trevor Noah announced Emily Adams Bode for Bode as the American Menswear Designer of the Year award, and Joel Kim Booster handed off the American Accessory Designer of the Year to Raul Lopez for Luar . Keke Palmer revealed the American Emerging Designer of the Year winner.
Cher made a surprise appearance and presented stylist Patti Wilson The Media Award in honor of Eugenia Sheppard. Bradley Cooper gave this year’s Fashion Icon award to Lenny Kravitz. Martha Stewart presented Skims with the Innovation Award presented by Amazon to founders Kim Kardashian, Jens Grede, and Emma Grede. Law Roach received his Stylist Award from Kerry Washington. Anna Wintour presented Andrew Bolton with the Founder’s Award in honor of Eleanor Lambert. Bella Hadid presented Chrome Hearts with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement award, which Laurie Lynn and Richard Stark accepted. Stan Herman presented Jeffrey Banks with the Special Anniversary Award. The Board of Trustees Award, posthumously presented to Virgil Abloh, was accepted by the late designer’s wife, Shannon Abloh.
The Impression extends heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and nominees.
