Leather and Lace
Review of Eckhaus Latta Spring 2024 Fashion Show

THE COLLECTION
THE VIBE
THE THEME
Spring 2024 saw Eckhaus Latta focus in on its renown with regard to an imaginative use of materials, leaning into lace and leather (with some solid denim and sheer knitwear in the mix as well). The brand tends to feel more garment-focused than collection-focused, but that’s not at all a bad thing – this outing especially was full of individual must-have pieces.
THE BUZZWORDS
Materiality. Tactility. Delicate (but grounded). Construction.
THE SHOWSTOPPER
Look # 17
We’re in the midst of a big trend of crazy jeans and pants that look like jeans but aren’t. Considering their penchant for twisting familiar materials and garment categories, it’s no surprise that Eckhaus Latta should jump into the meta-denim era with a bang.
THE DIRECTION
It wasn’t clear what the Rockefeller Center’s International Building had to do with the collection or the brand – other than its art-deco lobby sharing a similar color palette. While it is an impressive venue get, the low lighting made it tough to get a look at the no doubt impressive construction details of those leather pants.
THE WRAP UP
Eckhaus Latta strikes an impressive balance by being provocative without resorting to cheap tricks or aggressive, in-your-face statements, instead kicking up a stir by creatively twisting the established vocabulary of fabrication and garment design itself. This collection was another pointed chapter in that practice, and is sure to please fans of the brand and open-minded fashion aficionados alike.
