The Two Brands Come Together for the Innovative 90SQR Sneaker
Coperni and Puma have officially unveiled their collaborative 90SQR sneaker. First revealed on Coperni’s Spring 2024 runway, the shoe takes inspiration from the football (soccer) boot but spins it into a geometric future.
“We are so proud of this collaboration with PUMA. It is a big milestone for a designer to launch their first sneaker. The 90SQR gathers all our common values: innovation, minimalism, uniqueness. It’s everything we have dreamed of, and we look forward to launching more Puma x Coperni pieces in the near future,” said Coperni founders Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant.
The launch is celebrated with a campaign by photographer Paul Kooiker. Exploring the athletic principles of strength and speed through the geometry of the human body, Kooiker’s layered compositions capture the shoe’s spirit of experimental futurism while also exuding a timeless aesthetic of rhythm, harmony, and power.
The timing of the launch and choice of collaborator may be unfortunate for Coperni, however, as Puma is the target of a major boycott campaign due to its partnerships with Israel’s football league and its financial support of illegal settlements in occupied Palestine, with the BDS movement of course gaining a lot of renewed traction and coverage in recent months. Though Puma actually just ended its sponsorship of Israel’s national football team (claiming the decision was not motivated by the boycott), calls for boycott of the company are still ongoing and could overshadow this release, potentially even spilling over into a boycott of Coperni.
The Puma x Coperni 90SQR is available starting January 19 from Coperni’s stores and website, and January 22 from selected retailers.
