Olympics fever is taking hold of the globe, fashion is here for it. The Summer Games may be set to take hold of Paris at the end of next month, but the excitement is extending to all the fashion capitals as well, and the Spring 2025 menswear season in London, Milan, and Paris was full of references to athleticism.
Sporting equipment and team jerseys have a long history of being intertwined with fashion subculture, and it was exciting to see designers dig deeper into these connections. Martine Rose, for example, has always had the visual language of football (or soccer, if you prefer) as part of her design perspective, and this season was no different. Amiri put a refined spin on the vintage track jacket, while Kenzo similarly paid homage to the enduring varsity jacket. One of the most fun takes on the trend this season, in keeping with its theme of playfully subversive sensuality, Dsquared2 referenced the unintentionally (or is it?) erotic world of wrestling.
