Fall 2024 Ad Campaign

Review of Louis Vuitton Fall 2024 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière and Photographer David Sims with model Rianne Van Rompaey

Louis Vuitton traverses boundaries of time with its subtly strange yet super stylish Fall 2024 campaign, captured by photographer David Sims.

The imagery creates a striking intersection between historical heritage and forward-looking futurism through considered set design that makes use of two distinctive elements. The sense of history is present in the selection of antique travel trunks, which date back to the house’s earliest years. Meanwhile, a futuristic lighting fixture made of steel and glass – the same one featured in the set design of the collection’s runway show – creates a slick and angular juxtaposition with these design artifacts.

Embodying this tension of past and present is Rianne Van Rompaey, one of Nicolas Ghesquière’s go-to muses at Louis Vuitton. She exudes a sense of chic, polished power as she brings to life the creative director’s innovative synthesis of historical elegance and imaginative constructions. In particular, one of the collection’s most striking and unexpected accessories, the voluminous furry gloves, makes a return, furthering the unique interplay of texture and volume.

The accompanying short film deepens the sense of futurism and temporal tension with a cybernetically boppy electronic soundtrack.

In a way, it almost feels like these elements shouldn’t work together: avant-garde chandelier, antique travel trunks, experimental contemporary fashion, big techno music, and super furry gloves. And yet, somehow, this strange interplay of times and textures totally comes together. It’s a testament to Ghesquière’s vision for the brand that he can take things that don’t seem to make sense and, in combining them, uncover something fresh, surprising, and utterly cool.
