Balenciaga Hosts an Exhibition Showcasing Iconic Designs at Kering’s Paris Headquarters
In honor of the 2024 European Heritage Days (Journées Européennes du Patrimoine), Balenciaga is presenting a new exhibition titled *Les Subtilités d’un Dialogue* (The Subtleties of a Dialogue). This exhibition is located at Kering’s Paris headquarters, within the historic Laennec landmark at 40 rue de Sèvres, and will be open to the public on September 21st and 22nd, 2024.
As part of Kering’s ninth participation in this annual event, the Pinault Collection will also feature a special exhibition in the chapel, showcasing works by six contemporary artists under the theme *In Praise of Space*.
The Subtleties of a Dialogue exhibition focuses on the creations of both Cristóbal Balenciaga and Demna, presenting their designs as objets d’art. The scenography highlights specific details of their works, allowing visitors to closely examine the distinctive aesthetics, craftsmanship, and signature elements that define the House of Balenciaga.
Visitors can observe how the exhibition emphasizes the mastery behind shaping garments, balancing folds, and creating pure silhouettes. Each section of the exhibit showcases the House’s technical prowess and creative innovation.
Divided into six sections—The Collar, The Sleeve, The Waist, the color Black, and Dialogues between Cristóbal Balenciaga and Demna—the exhibition delves into individual components, analyzing their construction, materials, and societal significance. The exhibition’s focus on micro-details offers a broader understanding of Balenciaga’s design philosophy.
Intricate details such as patterns, pleats, and closures are framed to highlight their complexity and originality. For instance, the exhibition presents a selection of monochromatic black garments made from materials such as Spanish lace, gazar, silk satin, sustainably produced neoprene, and dense velvet, offering a comprehensive lesson in the use of textiles.
The clothing on display comes from Balenciaga’s extensive archives, featuring designs from Cristóbal Balenciaga’s early works to modern ready-to-wear and Couture collections by Demna.
This exhibition invites the public to observe and understand Balenciaga’s aesthetic vision and the lasting global impact of the House on the fashion industry.
