Balenciaga Revisits Le City Bag with New Iterations

Pierpaolo Piccioli Updates Its Early-2000S Icon With Refined Materials And A Lighter Construction

Balenciaga is introducing new iterations of its Le City bag, revisiting one of its most recognizable accessories as part of its Summer 2026 collection under creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli.

Originally launched in 2001, the Le City quickly became a defining accessory of the era, gaining traction among celebrities and establishing itself as a signature of Balenciaga’s accessory offering. The latest versions were unveiled on the runway, signaling a renewed focus on the model within the house’s evolving design language.

The updated designs emphasize reduced weight and a more structured form while retaining key elements from the original. These include hand-braided rolled leather handles, a detachable strap with shoulder pad, and the bag’s characteristic hanging mirror. Additional details such as thimble-shaped studs, leather-laced zipper pulls, and decorative buckles remain central to the design.

Material development plays a significant role in the update. The new styles incorporate suede exteriors, ultralight calfskin, and contrasting linings, alongside gold-finished hardware. The silhouette has been subtly reworked with rounder edges, balancing softness with a more defined structure.

Among the variations introduced are the Le City and Le City First models, offered in a range of finishes including black and moka suede, plum and lagoon ultralight calfskin with contrasting interiors, and vegetal-tanned vacchetta leather.

The reintroduction of the Le City reflects Balenciaga’s continued engagement with its archive, positioning the bag as a bridge between past and present design directions while reinforcing its longstanding focus on leather craftsmanship.

The new iterations are now available in select Balenciaga stores worldwide and through the brand’s online channels.
