Alexander Mcqueen Collaborates with 12 Artists for “Process”

Creative Director Sarah Burton Called on Twelve Woman Artists to Create Work in Response to the House’s Pre-Fall 2022 Collection

Alexander McQueen has announced the launch of “Process,” a new collaborative project in which the house has invited twelve international artists to create work in response to its Pre-Fall 2022 collection.

Seeking to illustrate that creativity arises from multiple perspectives, creative director Sarah Burton encouraged each artist to choose a look from the collection and responded to it through their preferred medium, engaging in a creative dialogue with the house. All have been given  complete creative freedom resulting in a rich conversation between their work and the selected looks.

The artworks are set to be displayed alongside the McQueen pieces they relate to in a temporary installation designed to showcase the individual approaches and the ways in which artworks and looks interact.

The artists are Norwegian textile artist Ann Cathrin November Høibo, American sculptor and multidisciplinary artist Beverly Semmes, Chinese large-scale painter Bingyi, Spanish photographer Cristina de Middel, photographer and jewelry designer (and iconic model) Guinevere van Seenus, American painter Hope Gangloff, Nigerian mixed-media painter Marcia Kure, British photographer Jackie Nickerson, Korean ceramicist Jennie Jieun Lee, British multidisciplinary artist Judas Companion, Chilean sculptor and installation artist Marcela Correa, and British photographer and multidisciplinary artist Marcia Michael.

I wanted to engage in a new creative dialogue with the collection this season and see how the artists interpreted the work that we created in the studio. It’s been very interesting to see how creativity has sprung from so many different perspectives, and the outcomes that have been varied and beautiful. We wanted the artists to have total freedom to respond to the looks, creating bold and thought-provoking conversations with their works. I hope that viewers will be as inspired as we have all been by witnessing these creative processes.”

To celebrate the announcement of the project, the house also shared a short film, which features interviews with the artists as they reflect on their work, inspirations, and creative processes woven together with footage of their creativity in their own element into a sort of video collage, an evocative ode to creative expression.
