Spring 2023 Ad Campaign

Review of Alexander McQueen Spring 2023 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Sarah Burton and Director Jonas Åkerlund with talent Sadie Sink, Mette, Naomi Campbell, Nyagua, Pom Klementieff, and Yseult

Alexander McQueen unites a formidable community of powerful women with its slick new campaign for Spring 2023. The campaign was directed by filmmaker Jonas Åkerlund.

The campaign stars a powerful group of uniquely talented creative women: iconic supermodel Naomi Campbell, actors Sadie Sink and Pom Klementieff, musician Yseult, triple threat Mette, and model Nyagua.

The imagery draws energy and a cyberpunk flare from the shifting face and smeared electric lights of London at dusk, from the brutal interior of an underground carpark to the iconic dome of St. Paul’s Cathedral. Bolstered by powerful visual motifs like motorcycles and city lights, each talented woman is the star of a brief video clip, a moving portrait which draws distinctive energy from her personality and styling while uniting them in a powerful community.

While Alexander McQueen has always been about celebrating a powerful femininity, this campaign feels like a somewhat new visual direction for the brand. It’s exciting to see Sarah Burton and her creative team work to find new perspectives to express this goal, and find such impressive people to embody it.
