Dover Street Market To Host The 16th Annual Edition From November 7 To 10
The 16th edition of the ASVOFF (A Shaded View on Fashion Film) festival, founder Diane Pernet’s festival dedicated to the intersection of fashion, style, and film, will run from November 7 to 10 at Dover Street Market in Paris, located at 35/37 Rue des Francs Bourgeois. ASVOFF will screen over 130 films by both emerging filmmakers and established directors worldwide, evaluated by a jury of industry leaders in fashion, film, and design.
Jury members for ASVOFF 16 include President Michèle Lamy, alongside Elias Medini (alias Ly.as), Bina Daigeler, Bob Recine, Fanny Fragu, Loane, Matt Lambert, Matthieu Orléan, Harrry Goaz, Jay Jay Johanson, Steve Olson, Pascal K Douglas, Fecal Matter, Sylvie Lancrenon and The Impression’s Dao Tran. This year’s program features a range of films, including the opening night’s “Quant,” directed by Sadie Frost, which honors British designer Mary Quant. Other documentaries include “Happy Clothes” by Michael Selditch, spotlighting Patricia Field’s costume design process for productions like Sex and the City and Emily in Paris, and “Siberian Dream” by Janet Paxton Gardner, following the life of model and activist Irina Pantaeva.
This season’s themes highlight current topics like Mental Health in Fashion, Black Spectrum, AI-Generated Films, Chinese Fashion Films, The Queer Archive, and Climate Warriors for Kids and Teens. Out-of-competition films, short films, feature films, and student projects will be showcased.
Before the official start on November 7, Galeries Lafayette’s 2002 commissioned film “Fashioned Out” will screen, offering a retrospective of fashion scenes in Paris, Milan, New York, and London from 22 years ago.
Notable for ASVOFF 16, Goldfinch Entertainment and Dreamtown will introduce two awards: the Goldfinch Writer’s Award for film writing, which includes mentorship, project development, and a €1,000 cash prize, and the Dreamtown Innovator Award, designed to support groundbreaking ideas and secure feature development deals, offering the winner project support, mentorship, and €1,000. The Dreamtown award jury includes Ben Charles Edwards, Kirsty Bell, and Michelle Arnusch.
Since its inception in 2008, ASVOFF has garnered acclaim for prompting artists to rethink fashion representation in film. The festival has hosted screenings at prestigious venues including Centre Pompidou, the Guggenheim, Art Basel Miami, and the Cannes Film Festival, making stops in creative hubs like New York, London, and Tokyo.
ASVOFF’s unique format blends competition with global exhibitions of feature films, documentaries, performances, and installations, establishing itself as a vital event on both the fashion and film circuits.
