Review of Calvin Klein Spring 2024 Ad Campaign Part One by Director & Photographer Mert Alas with Talent Jeremy Allen White
Jeremy Allen White brings big city energy to the first installment of Calvin Klein‘s Spring 2024 campaign, directed and photographed by Mert Alas.
Renowned for his performances on the hit shows Shameless and The Bear and the just-released film The Iron Claw, Jeremy Allen White has also recently rocketed up to major sex-symbol status thanks to his idiosyncratic charm and all-around hotness. This combination of unique talent and individuality with sheer sexiness makes him a perfect get for Calvin Klein’s signature campaign approach of taking an intimate look at hot celebrities in underwear.
While sometimes the brand’s stripped-back approach is situated within an emotional or conceptual narrative, this campaign eschews these conventions in favor of simple atmosphere and physical immediacy. No distractions. Just Jeremy. Alas’ film follows the actor as he makes his way through the streets of New York (their shared hometown) and ascends a skyscraper, where upon arriving at the rooftop he immediately strips down to his Calvins. Lesley Gore’s classic “You Don’t Own Me” provides the perfect soundtrack that brings a touch of nostalgia while playfully emphasizing the spirit of bravado and indulgence.
While the campaign will undoubtedly make waves across social media, out-of-home marketing is back in a big way (thanks in large part to how it lends itself to feeding back into social media) and the shirtless portraits of White would stop traffic on a billboard overlooking Brooklyn.
Featuring that rare casting choice that combines uniquely good looks with genuine talent, the campaign is a bold statement of unabashed confidence and over-the-top American energy.
