Inez and Vinoodh make smart and distinct use of both color and black-and-white photography to respond to the mood and look of the dual environments that form the campaign’s backdrops. In the black-and-white images, Stewart explores the nocturnal urban elegance of Paris: she waits at a bar for a drink in an elegant black dress, or takes the metro to her next destination (a Chanel ad in the background of this shot makes for a fun meta-moment).
Meanwhile, the color images treat us to dreamy wide-angle shots of the star posing resplendently in nature, whether before the sea, exploring a vineyard, or relaxing in a pomegranate orchard.
Utterly composed and poised while feeling fresh and energetic, the campaign is an elegant ode to the many sides of the Chanel woman.
