Summer 2021 Ad Campaign

Review of Gucci ‘Towards the Sun’ Summer 2021 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Alessandro Michele, Art Director Christopher Simmonds, and Photographer Hanna Moon

Gucci is ready for whatever weather summer brings. The house shared a fun new campaign titled “Towards the Sun” for Summer 2021, with art direction from Christopher Simmonds and photography by Hanna Moon.

The campaign highlights a selection of pieces in lightweight, summer-ready fabrics from the house’s recent Ouverture of Something that Never Ended collection. The bright, vintage flavor of the selections plays nicely with the campaign imagery of nostalgic and unpredictable summer days.

A series of three social-media-geared videos each tells the story of friends who make the most of their summer plans getting sidetracked by inclement weather. Two buds out for a picnic on the beach shout joyfully at each other over the roar of monsoon winds; a group of gal pals take shelter from a thunderstorm under an old-fashioned gazebo.

Moon’s richly colored photographs also convey a strong sense of narrative and character. Amplified by strong styling choices, her cohesive compositions are full of color and movement in the slow but steady rhythms of summer. The campaign feels joyful and sunny – even when the weather isn’t.
