Kenzo Supports French Judo Federation in Paris

Athletes to Wear Kimono-Inspired Outfits Designed by Nigo

Kenzo has announced its support for the French Judo Team during their competitions in Paris this summer. This initiative aligns with LVMH’s broader commitment to backing international sporting events.

Kenzo’s Artistic Director, Nigo, has designed an outfit for the French Judo athletes that pays homage to the sport’s Japanese origins. The team will don the same Kimono-inspired suit that was first revealed during the brand’s Fall/Winter 2023 runway show.

The Kimono, which has evolved since its inception in 8th century Japan, reached its peak during the Edo era. It is traditionally worn during significant events in Japan, symbolizing the country’s culture regardless of the wearer’s age, gender, or social status.

In judo, the Kimono has undergone changes to improve functionality, such as adjustments in length and volume for better movement and thicker fabric for enhanced grip. This garment symbolizes discipline, respect, and commitment to the martial art, values that resonate with Kenzo.

The Kimono designed by Nigo for the French Judo Team merges traditional Japanese roots with a modern, ceremonial twist, embodying the ‘East-meets-West’ aesthetic that Nigo consistently brings to Kenzo.

French athletes will wear the Kenzo Kimono suit during various official events this summer, showcasing the blend of tradition and contemporary design.
