Ludovic de Saint Sernin channels backseat sensuality for an elegantly steamy new campaign. The Fall 2021 campaign (the first to highlight the young designer’s recent push into womenswear, although his design work has always had gender fluidity in mind) features photography by Willy Vanderperre and art direction by Simon B. Morch.
The campaign’s gender-fluid styling pairs sparkling dresses and skirts with bolero and tank tops, while the designer’s signature eyelet lace-up enclosure (very sexy) makes a few key appearances. We’re also treated to an unexpected but strong look at some relaxed suiting.
Starring Selena Forrest and Charlie Kagstrom, Vanderperre’s imagery alternates between color photographs staged in the backseat of a car and black-and-white portraits perhaps taken backstage at show or in a nondescript alleyway.
The steamed windows of the car emphasizes the designer’s ethos of youthful, expressive sensuality, while the black-and-white shots complement them with the candid energy of street photography.
With a photographic eye that perfectly plays up Ludovic de Saint Sernin’s masterful merging of rawness and refinement, the campaign is another strong reminder that while gender may be made up, the beauty of the body is very real – and LdSS is here to help embrace and express that truth.
