"Essentials" Fall 2024 Ad Campaign

Review of Marc Jacobs “Essentials” Fall 2024 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Marc Jacobs and Photographers Valentin Herfray and Clinton Hild with models Adriana Lima, Colin Jones, Joan Smalls, and Lourdes Leon

Marc Jacobs celebrates the chaos of New York City and the cool girls who call it home with a vibrant and energetic new campaign spotlighting the brand’s signature bag styles. The campaign was shot by photographers Valentin Herfray and Clinton Hild.

The imagery follows a cast of four fashion it-girls – Joan Smalls, Adriana Lima, Colin Jones, and Lourdes Leon – through the energetic streets of New York City, where both the buildings and the handbags are supersized.

But things really come to life in the accompanying short film, which unfolds as a heart-pumping thrill ride across the city. Slick digital editing techniques, dynamic cinematography, and a well-chosen soundtrack come together for a frenetic journey beyond the boundaries of style.

Thanks in part to its recently established with creative production agency Shadow, the campaign feels like a bit of a departure from the aesthetic of previous Marc Jacobs campaigns. Nonetheless, the designer’s signature bold style and playfully cool spirit is still palpably present, and even gets more of a boost thanks to the innovative digital techniques that this production approach opens up.

Matching its penchant for strong casting with a new propulsive energy, Marc Jacobs is reaffirmed as the master of bold American style.
