Marc Jacobs Releases New Micro-Drama

Rowan Blanchard and Jemima Kirke navigate mistaken identity and first impressions in the latest chapter of Question Marc

Marc Jacobs continues to experiment with serialized fashion storytelling through The Swap, an episodic micro-drama starring Rowan Blanchard and Jemima Kirke. The project is the latest installment of Question Marc, the brand’s ongoing series connecting fashion, entertainment, and culture, following its debut with the Pre-Fall 2026 campaign The Scene.

Set immediately after a Marc Jacobs runway show, The Swap begins when Blanchard and Kirke accidentally leave with one another’s Scene Bags. As the two make their way through New York City, the contents of each bag become clues through which they begin constructing stories about its owner. Chance encounters complicate the search, while playwright and actor Jeremy O. Harris makes a cameo appearance along the way.

The premise gives a familiar fashion-campaign device — placing a hero accessory at the center of the imagery — an actual narrative purpose. Rather than simply appearing alongside its stars, the Scene Bag drives the action. Its contents become a means of exploring how clothing and possessions influence first impressions, allowing the product to function simultaneously as an accessory, character study, and storytelling mechanism.

The Swap also develops the thematic framework established by The Scene. Where the previous chapter considered visibility and the desire to be seen, the new installment focuses on perception: how quickly people form narratives about strangers from the limited information available to them. Blanchard describes the project as “imaginative, character-driven and fun,” adding that its refusal to take itself too seriously is precisely what makes it feel aligned with Marc Jacobs.

Kirke, meanwhile, grounds the conceit specifically in the mythology of New York and its perpetually prepared inhabitants. “A woman doesn’t carry her entire life in her bag, only the things she needs on the off chance that something happens. Just in case she falls into a hole, feels inspired or meets the love of her life. And for a New York woman, ‘just in case’ is a regular occurrence. This campaign is a storybook homage to a New York woman and the ways she lives her day to day, about two opposite women looking for one another in a massive city. As native New Yorkers they’re able to find the common ground by paying attention to the details,” she says.

More significantly, Question Marc suggests a shift away from treating each campaign as an isolated seasonal statement. Characters, products, and ideas can instead carry from one installment into the next, giving Marc Jacobs a recognizable narrative universe that can expand across social platforms over time. Additional episodes of The Swap will arrive throughout the fall, turning the traditional campaign rollout into something closer to serialized entertainment. For a story concerned with what we can learn from the things people carry, the Scene Bag proves particularly well cast.

The Fall 2026 collection is available now at Marc Jacobs boutiques globally, marcjacobs.com, and select luxury retailers.
