Luke and Lucie Meier Bring a Fresh Take to Moncler Genius with a Nature-Driven Collection
Luke and Lucie Meier, the creative minds behind Jil Sander, have teamed up with Moncler for the latest Moncler Genius project, “The City of Genius,” which was showcased at Shanghai Fashion Week. The collection blends Jil Sander’s minimalist style with Moncler’s experimental and outdoor heritage, creating a unique fusion of both brands’ identities.
Renowned for their work at Jil Sander, where they have balanced simplicity with modern touches since 2017, the Meiers have applied the same principles to this collaboration. The collection focuses on an exploration of the relationship between nature and humanity, translating the Moncler aesthetic through a lens of protection, comfort, and style.
The pieces feature layered silhouettes, collarless jackets, flowing dresses, and coats with detachable quilted linings. The collection includes padded mohair cardigans, soft-touch cotton outerwear, and knitwear in the form of dresses and capes. Skirts and dresses adorned with 3D loops of padded ribbons add sophistication to outdoor wear. The Moncler logo is reimagined as an abstract pin, incorporated into the designs as both closure and decoration. Accessories like padded bags, hiking boots, and sock boots complete the collection, which is presented in a palette of cream, black, brown, aqua, and mauve, with vibrant poppy red accents.
The Meiers, both avid skiers and outdoor enthusiasts, have drawn on their personal experiences in nature to inform the collection. Luke’s upbringing in Vancouver and Lucie’s connection to Zermatt, a renowned Alpine skiing destination, bring authenticity to their designs, which emphasize both functionality and elegance in outdoor environments.
The presentation at Shanghai Fashion Week was attended by notable figures including Anne Hathaway and Lina Zhang. The show unfolded in a continuous loop, accompanied by natural landscapes projected on screens and natural light streaming through a skylight. This immersive setup highlighted the nature-inspired theme that runs through the entire collaboration, reinforcing the connection between the outdoors and high fashion.
