SCAD Fash Showcases ‘The Blonds’ in New Exhibition

Spotlight on New York Luxury Brand’s Iconic Creations and Celebrity-driven Legacy

SCAD Fash, a facet of the Savannah College of Art and Design, presents its latest exhibition at the Atlanta Museum of Fashion + Film, celebrating the unparalleled artistry of the New York luxury fashion brand, The Blonds.

‘The Blonds: Glamour, Fashion, Fantasy’ showcases over 80 of the brand’s distinguished designs, a visual journey through its iconic pieces that have been adorned by celebrities of the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, and many more. These designs are not just garments but an opulent storytelling of crystal, diamond, and gold themes that pull visitors into The Blonds’ universe of glamour and unparalleled creativity. The intricate craftsmanship, rich embroidery, and sumptuous embellishments set in corseted silhouettes are a testament to their inspiration from the Golden Age of cinema, music, art, and animation.

Showcasing a retrospective of our work at SCAD is both an honour and a dream realised. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to Paula Wallace, Rafael Gomes, and the SCAD ensemble for materializing this splendid exhibition. Sharing this space with esteemed designers is a pinnacle in our journey, and we are thrilled to guide our fans through The Blonds’ universe.

The exhibition also offers a dedicated space to The Blonds’ 2019 collaboration with Disney, spotlighting luxury fashion pieces inspired by Disney’s legendary villains, including The Evil Queen, Ursula, Cruella de Vil, and Maleficent.

Founders David and Phillipe Blond’s journey began in the vibrant backdrop of New York’s club scene, specifically the Roxy nightclub. Their initial experimental designs for nightlife soon evolved, leading to the establishment of The Blonds in 2006. Their trajectory since has been nothing short of meteoric, positioning them as the ultimate fashion choice for iconic entertainers, celebrities, and the elite. Their work, a blend of fantasy, freedom, fun, and camp, emanates from their New York atelier.

Complementing the exhibition’s launch, SCAD FASH is set to host an exclusive reception, graced by the presence of the designers, celebrity advocates, loyal patrons, SCAD FASH members, and the student community. SCAD’s top-ranking students from diverse programs will also get a chance to engage intimately with The Blonds, benefiting from artist talks and curated events.

‘The Blonds: Glamour, Fashion, Fantasy’ remains open for public viewing at the SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film in Atlanta until Jan. 28, 2024. More details can be accessed at scadfash.org.
