We are delighted to present the winners of The Impression Awards 2024 in the category of Runway, celebrating the most innovative and and artisanal sartorial narratives that have left an indelible mark on the world of fashion this year.

In the women’s category, Miu Miu’s Spring 2024 show was voted as the best of the year for its brilliant layered invitation to embrace the quirks of personhood and womanhood and reconsider whether beauty – and fashion, for that matter – has just one meaning. What began as an experimental creative outlet for Miuccia Prada has evolved into a titanic commercial and creative force, and the designer is brilliantly utilizing all the opportunities this success is affording her. Design ideas that led to hugely successful pieces – the mini skirt, the cardigan, the ballet flats, the underwear as outerwear – were developed in spontaneous new directions that drew as much from the world of boyish prep as they did from luxurious 90s minimalism. Coupled with production design in collaboration with Qatari-American artist Sophia Al-Maria that interrogated apocalyptic yet daily fears and experiences, and the results were a runway show with a vision of beauty that was intoxicatingly, meaningfully off-kilter.

Dior’s win in the men’s category proves once again that a great collection is often only as strong as the way in which it is presented. Forming one of the season’s most talked-about runway spectacles, Kim Jones’ technological masterpiece that saw the models rise from the spaceship-like floor was one heck of an entrance. But he followed this up with a collection that was as much about heritage as innovation. Most powerful was the way the designer was able to translate Christian Dior’s seminal “new look” – which revolutionized European fashion in the 40s – through clever tailoring construction into a vibrant yet sensible wardrobe for the contemporary dandy.

But the most memorable runway production moment goes to Prada, for which it earned the title in our Best Fashion Show Production category. A sleek industrial set courtesy of the house’s ongoing creative friendship with Rem Koolhaas’ AMO provided a thrillingly sensuous juxtaposition to the curtains of green or pink slime that unexpectedly began to descend from the ceiling, creating a fluid yet linear tunnel of translucency through which Miuccia Prada’s and Raf Simons’ intellectual and exacting visions of contemporary sophistication confidently strode.

The Impression extends a hearty congratulations to all the winners in the Runway category, and another round of thank you’s to our insightful and inspiring jury members.
