Geometric Dreams
Review of Tod’s Spring 2027 Fashion Show
By Angela Baidoo
What sets Italians, and their attitude to life, apart is their uncompromising pursuit of pleasure in everything that they do.
Food, film art and design are rooted in a patriotic duty to exemplify the ‘Made in Italy’ stamp of approval. Fashion is no less a part of this endeavour with craft always at the forefront, and establishing new ways to communicate this fact – without the viewer physically experiencing the softness of the leather or the crispness of a cut – has been a challenge that creative director Matteo Tamburini has readily accepted as part of his ongoing duties at Tod’s.
THE COLLECTION
THE VIBE

The proud mark of ‘Made In Italy’ is the reason, among others, that Tod’s puts their craftsmen and women on display at the beginning of every show. A workshop in miniature it highlights the meticulous detail and exemplary expertise of each artisan and what goes into the ‘make’ of their iconic ‘Gommino loafer’ and ‘Candy’ bag. A style that has been recalled from the archives.
A dedication to the pursuit of excellence keeps things relatively clear cut at Tod’s. Shapes remain easy for no-brainer summer styling that was coupled this season with new ways-to-wear. A white mini-shift incorporated a padded skirt, balloon pants came in technical variations and outerwear was perforated as the brand’s answer to the need for naturally aerated clothing at a time of changeable weather patterns.
It is not instantly the most obvious observation from a Tod’s show, but Matteo Tamburini is a fan of a right angle, and moreso the rigidity of the square has become a recurring motif. The squares used within the collection at first seems an impenetrable structure, but rendered in the softest of leathers and silks its sides fall away and becomes a lesson in how to disrupt geometrically – look to the two-tone skirts as the best iteration of this technique. Skirts, camisole tops, and sun dresses were united through colour with natural shades always leading the mid-toned brights that bring up the rear.

THE WRAP UP
Colour co-ordinates with precision for Tamburini with craftsmanship always taking the main stage as an example of Italian style in the modern and traditional sense.
