Empathy Fall 2020 Ad Campaign


As we look out on a changing and unfamiliar world during social distancing, Valentino celebrates empathy – which, though we are physically apart, always keeps us together.

Creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli announced the #ValentinoEmpathy project at the beginning of the lockdown period. With no boundaries or location, the campaign is conceived as a way to honor the emotions that unite us. Models, artists, and friends of the house wear looks from the Fall 2020 collection. They are at home captured by the friends and family with whom they are living through quarantine, or sometimes by themselves. The resulting set of images is diverse and personal, but a sense of intimacy and compassion runs throughout.

The cast includes Adut Akech, Anwar Hadid, Christy Turlington, Ellery Walker Harper, Ghali, Gwyneth Paltrow, James Turlington, Janet Mock, Laetitia Casta, Laura Dern, Leon Dame, Liu Wen, Mariacarla Boscono, Mustafa the Poet, Naomi Campbell, Rafferty Law, Rossy de Palma, Rula Jebreal, Shu Qi, Tali Lennox, Tang Yan, and Vittoria Ceretti.

The protagonists of the campaign will not be receiving compensation for this project, but instead, their fees will be donated to the Italian Hospital Spallanzani in Rome, the Italian Hub fighting against COVID-19. Valentino will be working with the Spallanzani Hospital on medium and long term projects, anticipating the progressing phases of the pandemic. Thus, the campaign is both an image and an act of love: the Valentino family celebrates its togetherness while taking an active role in supporting its home.
