Balenciaga Opens Greene Street Flagship in New York

Balenciaga has unveiled its latest U.S. flagship store in the heart of SoHo, Manhattan. The new location on Greene Street offers an extensive range of the brand’s signature collections, including ready-to-wear, shoes, bags, jewelry, eyewear, and accessories for both men and women. In addition, the store features exclusive items available only at this location.

The two-story flagship embodies Balenciaga’s signature “Raw Architecture” concept, which celebrates the foundational characteristics of historic buildings in its design concept while subtly introducing new visual directions.

Housed in a historic building dating back to 1908, the store occupies a space that once stood out as one of New York’s early steel-framed skyscrapers. Inside, the interior design plays with architectural complexity, incorporating original elements while adhering to Balenciaga’s commitment to sustainability by minimizing the use of new raw materials.

The store’s ground and mezzanine levels are visually distinct, separated by a wide horizontal slab, with supporting columns serving as a counterpoint. The interplay of these design elements is further enhanced by display shelving made from saw-cut remnants of solid materials. Natural light floods the space through a skylight, illuminating both levels and highlighting key architectural features.

A variety of materials, including original lime-wash bricks, cabochon marble flagstone, and exposed plaster and stucco, reflect the building’s many transformations over the years. These textures are softened by the addition of signature carpeting, satin finishes, and carefully curated lighting, creating a sophisticated, yet raw aesthetic throughout the space.
