Review of Saint Laurent Winter 2024 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello and Photographer Juergen Teller with models Charlotte Rampling, Ajus Samuel, Anja Rubik, Awar Odhiang, Binx Walton, Kate Moss, Penelope Ternes
Saint Laurent brings a new sensuality and opulence to the familiar corners of Paris with its new Winter 2024 campaign. The campaign once again sees the house’s creative director Anthony Vaccarello team with photographer Juergen Teller.
Set among one of Paris’ historic brasseries, Teller’s photographic perspective rediscovers a sense of elegance and richness among the details of this familiar setting. Worn by a cast of returning Saint Laurent muses like Kate Moss and Awar Odhiang who are joined by the iconic Charlotte Rampling, the interplay of revealing, sinuous sheers and voluminous tailoring cuts a striking silhouette against this backdrop.
Since Vaccarello did catch some criticism for this collection’s overdone use of near nudity that felt like a somewhat one-dimensional and objectifying take on feminine sensuality, the campaign could have been a good opportunity to go in a different direction and introduce a sense of narrative or give these characters more power. But aside from the powerful presence of Charlotte Rampling, the campaign sticks quite close to Vaccarello’s typical formula that is all about the visuals and the aesthetic atmosphere.
But it’s a visual atmosphere that is impeccably realized. The partnership between Vaccarello and Teller is a powerful example of creative synergy, and in their work together the two continue to concoct a cohesive and consistent vision for Saint Laurent that is archly elegant and indulgently luxurious.
