Songzio Paris Boutique: A Fusion of Korean Modernism and Parisian Classicism
Songzio, the Korean fashion house, has inaugurated its first boutique in Paris at 10 rue Charlot in the Marais district. The store showcases a harmonious blend of Parisian classicism and Korean modernism, marking a significant milestone for the brand. Designed by creative director Jay Songzio and Paris-based architecture studio Hypnos XP, the boutique has a brutalist aesthetic that stands out amidst the Haussmannian streetscape.
The boutique’s concept revolves around duality, balancing elements such as order and disorder, light and darkness, and classical with avant-garde. This philosophy is central to the design, reflecting the coexistence of contrasts in a unified space. The brand describes this creative approach as reflecting its collections, which start with painted inspirations and evolve into meticulously crafted fashion pieces.
The architectural design integrates Songzio’s artistic process, using modernist elements and raw materials to evoke a sense of balance and emotion. Features such as a neo-brutalist concrete façade and a 7.5-meter cast-in-place concrete staircase exemplify this aesthetic. The staircase connects the boutique’s ground floor, basement retail area, and private office on the first floor. Two additional annex spaces offer a secluded experience for guests to view exclusive runway pieces.
Inside, the boutique pairs textured concrete with black oak to create a bold yet serene atmosphere. Highlights include monolithic columns, sculpted alcoves, and indirect lighting, all interwoven with raw steel bars. An angular slanted wall supports a suspended jewelry drawer, while segmented mirrors display sketches from the designer. A long, curved LED light further enhances the angular space, creating a distinctive ambiance.
With this flagship store, Songzio aims to invite visitors into its creative world, offering a unique perspective that bridges tradition and innovation. The boutique serves as both a retail destination and a testament to the brand’s artistic vision.
