The first chapter of the partnership reworks the Boston and Gizeh with paisley, fringe, embroidery, and Western-inspired details

Birkenstock and Etro are bringing their first collaboration to stores following its debut on the Etro Fall/Winter 2026 runway during Milan Fashion Week. The partnership brings together two houses with markedly different visual languages, pairing Birkenstock’s function-first footwear with Etro’s decorative approach to pattern, texture, and Italian craftsmanship.
The first release focuses on two of Birkenstock’s most recognizable silhouettes: the Boston and Gizeh. The Boston, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026, receives an appropriately maximalist makeover, while the Gizeh thong sandal is reworked in premium suede and nappa leather. Both retain the anatomically shaped cork-latex footbed at the center of Birkenstock’s design identity, here fully wrapped in tonal leather.
Etro makes its presence known through the details. Paisley motifs appear alongside embroidery, elongated fringe, custom Western-inspired buckles, and Pegasus-branded rivets, transforming the familiar utilitarian shapes without obscuring their origins. Even the outsole becomes part of the collaboration, combining Birkenstock’s bone-pattern tread with Etro’s Paisley motif.

A palette of taupe, chocolate, mink, and natural tones keeps the more expressive embellishments grounded, while polished hardware and metallic accents add contrast. It is a meeting of sensibilities that works through opposition: Birkenstock provides the practical foundation, while Etro layers on the ornamentation.
The collaboration arrives amid a milestone year for the Boston, but rather than treating its 50th anniversary as an exercise in nostalgia, Etro demonstrates how adaptable the silhouette has become. Fringe and paisley might be a long way from the clog’s functional origins, yet its instantly recognizable shape gives the experimentation somewhere solid to land.
The first Birkenstock by Etro collection launches globally on September 10 through Etro and Birkenstock’s 1774 platform, as well as selected boutiques and retail partners worldwide. Additional chapters of the partnership are set to follow in the coming months.
