Bottega Veneta explores the under-celebrated intersection of craft and play in its Spring 2025 campaign, captured by photographer Sander Houthuys.
Captured in minimalist interior spaces, the portraits conceptually begin in the same way as one of Bottega Veneta’s distinguished lookbooks. But this sense of minimalist sophistication is subverted by the presence of super playful furniture, leather bean-bag chairs in the shape of animal heads. The result is an unexpected collision of the house’s serious approach to understated yet impeccably crafted contemporary luxury and a childlike spirit of whimsy.
The accompanying short film dives even deeper into that latter aspect through the additions of music and digital animation. To the soundtrack of an epic 80s power ballad, the playful furniture comes to life, engaging in a series of colorfully cartoonish hijinks with the cast members.
This campaign may very well be Matthieu Blazy’s last for Bottega Veneta, and it’s both surprising yet welcome to see that he’s choosing to keep having fun instead of sentimentally looking back. Introducing new concepts and creativity without losing what made his tenure at the brand so distinguished, he offers a fun conclusion to a stellar run.
