Review of Celine Summer 2024 Ad Campaign by Photographer and Director Hedi Slimane with model Lulu Tenney
Celine synthesizes city chic and resort relaxation in its new Summer 2024 campaign. The campaign was photographed, as always, by the house’s creative director Hedi Slimane.
Captured on the Amalfi coast in Sorrento, Italy, model Lulu Tenney perfectly embodies Celine’s ethereal Parisian cool girl taking a seaside vacation from the urban bustle. Captured in rich black and white, the location’s patina of historic architecture and lush tropical foliage provides a fitting backdrop for styling embodies that convergence of seaside and city: crochet pieces balance luxury and earthy craft and lace details lend an airy delicateness, while denim anchors the ensembles and striped knits translate the call of the sea.
The accompanying short film, meanwhile, is shot in color, and balances out the elegant formalism of the photography with the dazzling jewel tones of green flora and the blue expanses of sky and sea.
Rumors have been brewing recently about Hedi Slimane’s departure from Celine, but with so much speculation, constant shift, and unexpected turns in the game of creative director appointments, it’s hard to know how much stock to put in these gossips. This campaign, however, makes one thing clear, and it’s that Slimane’s consistent vision for the brand is still as powerful as ever.
