Celebrating the Best of American Fashion at the American Museum of Natural History
The 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards, presented by Amazon Fashion, brought together the fashion industry’s brightest at the American Museum of Natural History. Hosted by Cynthia Erivo, the evening honored standout American designers, emerging talents, and icons who’ve made significant contributions to the industry. Erivo, known for her multi-award-winning career in entertainment, led the ceremony, marking a night of recognition and celebration of creativity and innovation in fashion.
Rachel Scott for Diotima received the prestigious American Womenswear Designer of the Year award, standing out among nominees like Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, Thom Browne, and Tory Burch.
Other notable winners included Willy Chavarria, honored as American Menswear Designer of the Year, recognized for his impactful designs. Chavarria triumphed over nominees Mike Amiri for Amiri, Emily Adams Bode Aujla for Bode, Thom Browne, and Todd Snyder.
The Shop with Google American Emerging Designer of the Year award went to Henry Zankov of Zankov, celebrated for his unique and forward-thinking approach. Zankov’s competition included Tanner Richie and Fletcher Kasell for Tanner Fletcher, Jackson Wiederhoeft for Wiederhoeft, Connor McKnight, and Presley Oldham.
For accessories, Raul Lopez for Luar was awarded American Accessories Designer of the Year, underscoring his contributions to the industry. Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton introduced this category, where Lopez bested nominees Ana Khouri, Stuart Vevers for Coach, Catherine Holstein for Khaite, and Tory Burch.
Internationally, Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli was awarded International Designer of the Year, while Michael Kors received the Positive Change Award, recognized for his efforts to foster social impact and environmental sustainability.
Honoring achievements beyond design, the Media Award in honor of Eugenia Sheppard went to Annie Leibovitz, presented by Anna Wintour. Marc Jacobs presented the Founder’s Award in honor of Eleanor Lambert to Hamish Bowles, while Donna Karan and Todd Oldham awarded Stephen Burrows the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award for his enduring influence in fashion.
The evening also paid tribute to the late Isabel Toledo with the Isabel Toledo Board of Directors’ Tribute, presented by Molly Ringwald and accepted by Ruben Toledo. And to cap off the night, Erykah Badu was awarded the Fashion Icon award. Known for her boundary-pushing style, Badu has inspired trends worldwide, blending vintage and contemporary fashion with bold colors and patterns and championing designers like Rick Owens, Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty, and Thom Browne.
As a celebration of American fashion and an acknowledgment of its impact worldwide, the 2024 CFDA Awards highlighted the talent and vision of designers across generations and styles.
