Fall 2024 Fashion Trend

While fashion is typically considered as being focused on the way garments and the people who wear them look, just as important is the design aspect of functionality, wearability, and comfort. For Fall 2024, designers went big on the idea of how it feels to wear something, an exploration which led many into the realm of knitwear.

Deconstructed sweaters and oversized knits bridged the gap between look and feel, exuding comfort as a luxurious visual category. One of the most impactful elements of Seán McGirr’s divisive Alexander McQueen debut, for example, was the oversized sweaters with massive roll collars or hoods.

Quilting was also a prevalent motif on several runways, especially those of Eckhaus Latta and Jil Sander, where the classic craft technique was cleverly used to achieve structure and flow in addition to warmth and softness.

That idea of comfort and easy was also present in robe-like coats and capelets, the kind of pieces one can throw on on a chilly day and achieve an effortless elegance.
