Review of Dolce & Gabbana Women’s Spring 2021 Ad Campaign by Photographer Branislav Simoncik
In case we didn’t know the spring season was upon us, Dolce & Gabbana remind us with an eye-popping explosion of color in the form of a Spring 2021 Women’s campaign, which features photography by Branislav Simoncik.
The campaign goes for utter maximalism, and at first, it can feel somewhat overwhelming. The patchwork of pattern and color that characterizes the collection is exploded out into the world, with our cast of models posing on a staircase festooned with a mosaic of prints. The prints seem drawn from a range of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cultural sources, which all feel fitting for spring. If we can get past the initial eye-shock of this aggressive kaleidoscope of color, we can appreciate the beauty of the patterns and the harmonies or clashes they create with one another.
The imagery asks a lot of its viewers. There is so much going on visually that it can be tempting just to close our eyes. But if we can keep them open, we are rewarded with an almost infinite wealth of color and pattern to explore.
