Duran Lantink Named Creative Director of Jean Paul Gaultier, Ushering in a New Chapter for the House

The house of Jean Paul Gaultier has officially appointed Duran Lantink as its new permanent Creative Director, marking the end of its rotating guest-designer era and the beginning of a new vision for the brand. Lantink will debut his first ready-to-wear collection during Paris Fashion Week in September 2025, with his first haute couture show slated for January 2026.

Known for his boundary-pushing silhouettes and sustainable approach to design, Lantink brings a fresh and provocative spirit to the maison—qualities that align seamlessly with Jean Paul Gaultier’s legacy of irreverence and innovation. In a statement, Gaultier himself expressed full support, describing Lantink as “the new enfant terrible of fashion,” and adding, “I see in him the energy, audacity, and playful spirit through fashion that I had at the beginning of my own journey.”

For Lantink, the appointment represents both an honor and a homecoming of sorts. “I consider Jean Paul Gaultier a genius and part of a generation that kicked down doors, so people like us can walk through them freely and be who we are without apology,” he said. “To me, Gaultier represents the ultimate house of creative spirit and savoir-faire. It’s provocative, and continuously pushing boundaries.”

The appointment closes a bold chapter for the house, which since 2020 had invited designers like Haider Ackermann, Glenn Martens, Olivier Rousteing, and Simone Rocha to reinterpret its codes through couture. Lantink’s selection signals a more permanent return to continuity—while maintaining the brand’s reputation as a platform for bold ideas and cultural discourse.

Founded in 1976 by Jean Paul Gaultier, the house is synonymous with subversive elegance, streetwise couture, and a rebellious reimagining of French style. Now, with Lantink at the helm, the maison appears poised to once again reshape the fashion landscape with its signature blend of shock and chic.
