Essentials Summer 2024 Core Collection Ad Campaign

Review of Fear of God Essentials Summer 2024 Core Collection Ad Campaign by Creative Director Jerry Lorenzo with Photographers Maria and Louise Thornfeldt and models Vince Staples, Delilah Belle, Kai-Isaiah Jamal, Ezekiel Conteh, Ruben Moreira, Jessie Aina, Pierrick Gregoire, Lara Menezes, and Terrill Jefferson

Fear of God debuts the core styles for its Summer 2024 Essentials line with a laidback campaign by photographer duo Maria and Louise Thornfeldt.

Picking up on the collection’s neutral color palette and design perspective of stylish utilitarian wardrobe staples, the Thornfeldt sisters capture their portraits in an airy and industrially elegant space. The emphasis is squarely on the rich textures and soft volumes of the collection.

In fact, the lookbook-like imagery feels so straightforward that the campaign might be missing an opportunity to use the talents of its cast and create a sense of narrative and community. The campaign stars incredibly popular rapper Vince Staples, as well as model Kai-Isaiah Jamal, an outspoken trans activist – but you wouldn’t know it from the campaign, as it doesn’t work to give its stars a voice. The presence of these high-profile creators will no doubt give the campaign a boost on social media and get more eyes on the collection, but it might not have the emotional or artistic weight to make a real connection.

Nonetheless, the simple visuals are executed with artisanality and sensitivity, and they do directly connect with Fear of God’s established visual identity. Though we wish we could hear more, what we can see is looking good.
