Review of Jean Paul Gaultier x Burna Boy Eyewear Spring 2023 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Florence Tetier with Photographer Marcin Kempski with talent Burna Boy
Jean Paul Gaultier and Burna Boy celebrate their eyewear collaboration with a psychedelic and playful new campaign by creative director Florence Tetier and photographer Marcin Kempski.
Starring the international megastar himself, the campaign situates Burna Boy in a dreamy and twisted, Tim Burton-esque cityscape (courtesy of set design from Daughter of Lama), making the icon appear even larger than larger than life as the camera work plays with scale and perspective. Throughout the portraits, he’s never without the star shades, which update 90s archive styles with personal touches.
Since the advent of CGI, the use of miniatures and film and set design is becoming something of a lost art, so it’s exciting to see it put to work so imaginatively here. It’s a great way to communicate the towering status of these two giants of pop culture.
