The Mixed-Up Mastery of Junichi Abe

The brand evolved its signature practice of hybridity, innovative construction, and material juxtaposition with a powerful combination of liberated imagination and masterful technique.

Junichi Abe expressed his pursuit of “very simple but very strong looks” backstage before the spring Kolor show. Uniforms influenced his design choices, with their utility-first approach serving as a memorable basis for the collection.

The runway showcased references to sports uniforms and security gear, bringing a brighter color palette of dark teals, yellow, and purple to complement earlier earthy tones. Abe opted for lightweight materials suitable for warmer weather, such as cottons, nylons, and summer-weight wools. These fabrics were skillfully crafted into parachute skirts, tailored slacks, windbreakers, and boxy blousons.

The collection also exhibited Abe’s expertise in patternmaking, with looks layered together seamlessly without excess bulk. Instead of embellishments, he used elements of staple items as decorative accents, creating unique pieces like asymmetrical jumpsuits and jackets with flowing blouse sleeves.
