Spring 2022 Ad Campaign

Review of Lanvin Spring 2022 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Bruno Sialelli with Photographer Luis Alberto Rodriguez with models Naomi Campbell & Evan Garcia

by Aidel Townsley

Lanvin Paris showcases Naomi Campbell and features Evan Garcia in their 2022 Spring-Summer campaign, combining decadence and striking simplicity. Creative director Bruno Sialelli works with photographer Luis Alberto Rodriguez and stylist Carlos Nazario.

These artists create a dignified and surrealist den for the magnetic and powerful Naomi to reveal Sialelli’s Spring-Summer collection. Naomi is effortlessly at ease in the interior paradise, draped in jewel tones and platform heels that mimic the monochromatically bold backdrops and the structural furniture. She remains one with her surroundings, her presence an extension of her setting. A black crinoline dress is the campaign’s pièce de résistance, Naomi’s ethereal aspect and piercing gaze radiate decadence with almost religious connotation. Her luminosity is reflected in the pale gold mirrored enclave behind her, which simultaneously accepts her and points out her ability to hide within the dark folds of the sinuous and structured gown.

Naomi has moved from catwalk to Catwoman as her fierce femininity shines in a DC comic-inspired dress, a glittering silver piece upon which Catwoman’s effigy is printed. Catwoman is ideal, given Naomi’s femme fatale reputation and Lanvin’s popular Hobo Cat bag. The bag, which features a sculptural handle reminiscent of the Egyptian Bastet, a feline deity, is inspired by Jeanne Lanvin’s fireplace andirons, another ode to furniture’s influence on the collection.

Evan Garcia is featured to embody Sialleli’s vision for the Lanvin man. Evan’s Flash-X sneakers strike due to their unique shape and contrast to the vibrant cobalt crushed velvet carpet they rest on. He, too, inhabits DC comics’ most opulent hero: Batman. The masked figure can be found on the back of a magnificent violet leather trench coat, which Evan epitomizes with his austere expression.

Sialelli, Rodriguez, and Nazario capture the ineffability of royal brilliance and the timeless power of elegance. The dialogue between decor and the collection honors a return to the domestic elegance established by Jeanne Lanvin.
