The Rising NBA Star Joins the Brand’s Growing Ranks of Athlete Ambassadors
Louis Vuitton has announced rising basketball star Victor Wembanyama as its latest brand ambassador.
A Frenchman by birth, Wembanyama, widely known as “Wemby,” was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and has garnered attention for his exceptional performance with the San Antonio Spurs, positioning him as a strong contender for the Rookie of the Year title.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the French luxury house expressed its enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Striving for excellence and with a perpetual honing of craft, Victor joins Louis Vuitton on a journey of shared values and aligned ambitions. Like Louis Vuitton himself, the young athlete has blazed a trail, excelling in a career that is only just beginning.”
With a substantial following of 3.6 million on Instagram, Wembanyama has quickly become a fan favorite. The NBA recently revealed that he ranks fourth in jersey sales for the first half of the season, trailing behind Stephen Curry, Jayson Tatum, and LeBron James.
Prior to his NBA career, Wembanyama played for the French professional basketball club Metropolitans 92, and has expressed aspirations to represent the French national team at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Wembanyama joins a prestigious lineup of LV ambassadors from the world of sports, including tennis players Carlos Alcaraz and Naomi Osaka, skier Eileen Gu, swimmer Leon Marchand, and fencer Enzo Lefort. Louis Vuitton has also featured renowned soccer stars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in recent advertising campaigns, and is preparing for a significant presence at the upcoming Summer Olympic Games, sponsored by its parent company LVMH.
