Off-White x Pioneer DJ Release A Capsule Collection And DJ Controller
Off-White and AlphaTheta Corporation have released limited-edition DJ equipment – the DJ-1000-OW from Pioneer DJ brand. Virgil Abloh, founder of Off-White also created a capsule collection to accompany the launch.
This collaboration marks the first time the two have partnered where a product was available for purchase. The companies collaborated on a not-for-sale DJ professional multiplayer and mixer in 2019 – and Abloh included those pieces in his “Figures of Speech” exhibit. Abloh, who DJ’s himself, seems to love music as much as he does fashion – making this collusion more of a natural than unexpected move.
As with the skeleton CDJ and DJM I designed with Pioneer DJ, I wanted to take this opportunity to bring together technology and human interaction,”. And this time we took it one step further with “Sound Engineering” bringing together this medium that unites so many of us with a fashion element. Both music and fashion, in my opinion, are these intense forces that have the unique power to bring people together while letting you make your own statement all at the same time.”

Abloh adds his signature style to the sound engineering equipment with his trademark prints, color blocks, and quotation marks. The fluorescent orange and matte white asymmetrical colors and tagline printing give the DJ controller a distinctive look.
Of the project, Yoshinori Kataoka, president, and CEO of AlphaTheta Corporation said “DJing is a truly unique art form; its ability to evoke strong emotions and create deep connections between music and people is incredibly powerful. Virgil’s capacity to connect a myriad of art forms is a fearless display of unlimited creative potential. We hope that this collaboration inspires creativity amongst our community”.
Accompanying the launch, Virgil designed a “sound engineering” limited edition collection of clothing and accessories, also in collaboration with Pioneer DJ. The inspiration for the designs came from the technical files that describe the internal structure of the DJ controller. All the limited-edition items are marked with silk-screen printing graphics and fluorescent green ink. Tees, hoodies, a coach jacket, caps, and fanny packs all branded with the “sound engineering” logo, make up the collection.
The Pioneer DJ c/o Off-White limited edition collaboration will be available at OffWhite.com, Farfetch.com, and select Off-White stores globally from mid-July 2021. The DJ controller is available to purchase exclusively through a Selfridges App raffle, which will be held from 9 a.m. – 12:00p on July 15.
