While the new year can be seen as a time for reinvention, Saint Laurent is starting 2023 with a reminder of what it does best. The house’s first campaign of the year is a bold and slick look at creative director Anthony Vaccarello’s signature design aesthetic. The Spring 2023 campaign was created in collaboration with director and photographer Vanessa Beecroft.

The campaign maintains a focused emphasis on Vaccarello’s mastery of slick, rakish elegance, with its rakish cast modeling elongated, body-hugging looks that are finished off with razor-sharp high heels. Each image features a consistent color palette, with the film and one set of photographs featuring all-black looks, and another set of photographs featuring brown and beige looks.

Beecroft’s visual approach keeps things straightforward and impactful, seeing her models almost as a sculpture set occupying a minimal interior space, while making use of fog machines and directional lights to subtly deepen the sense of moodiness and understated modern glamor.

Leveraging a large cast into a focused use of visual rhythm and repetition, the campaign is another powerful assertion of a familiar yet always-relevant design and brand identity.
