Ajay Gopal Joins as CFO While Board Member Karen Katz Moves Up to Chairperson
Growing secondhand luxury retail platform The RealReal has announced the appointment of a new CFO and chairperson.
Ajay Gopal will take on the role of the company’s new chief financial officer, effective March 18th. Gopal, currently serving as the CFO of Outside Interactive, brings a wealth of experience in overseeing tech-enabled consumer companies, having held similar positions at Good Eggs, Helix, and StubHub.
Expressing excitement about to Gopal’s appointment, The RealReal’s CEO John Koryl said, “I’m thrilled to welcome Ajay to The RealReal. Not only does Ajay have robust experience in high-growth and transformative businesses, but his diverse background and experience across e-commerce and two-sided marketplaces is invaluable as The RealReal continues its drive toward profitability.”
Additionally, Karen Katz, a current board member, has been named the chairperson of The RealReal’s board of directors. Katz brings decades of luxury retail experience to her new role, having previously served as the CEO of Neiman Marcus Group. Koryl praised Katz’s industry knowledge and strategic expertise, highlighting her significant contributions since joining the board in 2021.
“This appointment comes at a critical time for the company as we focus on profitable growth, and I am confident she will help take The RealReal to new heights,” Koryl remarked on Katz’s appointment. Katz also serves on the boards of Under Armour, Humana, and Rokt, further emphasizing her extensive experience and leadership in the retail sector.
