Review of Dior Fall 2021 Ad Campaign by Dior Women’s Artistic Director Maria Grazia Chiuri and Photographer Brigitte Niedermair and Artist Maripol with models Steinberg, Sculy Mejia, Kayako Higuchi, & Jits Bootsma
Dior unveils a new Fall 2021 campaign bursting with pop-art energy. Photographs by Brigitte Neidermair are transposed by photographic artist Maripol for an energetic meeting of analog and digital.
The new collection features pieces in acid brights that combine plays of transparency and silvery effects, while elsewhere leopard prints and bright reds and pinks offer a sense of tongue-in-cheek power dressing. The campaign imagery excellently captures this subversive sophistication.
Taking Neidermair’s bold portraits as her basis, Maripol layers the silhouettes with brightly colored outlines, creating an eye-popping sense of energy and rhythm. Propped up by these bold colors, the figures almost seem to levitate above the page, as if we were seeing them in three dimensions.
The campaign is another powerful statement of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s use of fashion design to explore empowerment and affirmation.
Updating classic house codes and presenting them through styling and art direction that feels at once playfully throwback and boldly contemporary, the campaign is a thrilling statement of that signature Dior joie de vivre.
