With the power to make or break an outfit, bags have always been the quintessential fashion accessory – but why stop at just one? On both the runways of Fall 2023 and the street style scenes outside of them, we’ve seen designers and stylists embrace handbag dual wielding. In addition to being a strong style statement that allows for unique mixing and matching of textures, shapes, and colors, it’s also of course practical move that increases storage capacity.
Bottega Veneta led the charge on the runway, pairing larger totes with smaller handbags and emphasizing the house’s legacy of gorgeous leather craftsmanship that creative director Matthieu Blazy has brought back to the fore. But for the most part we actually saw the trend more frequently in menswear shows, where it sometimes took on a bit of a tactical flavor, and showed that designers are continuing to push for men at large to embrace bags – and with looks like these, it feels like it’s only a matter of time.
