Though bags and shoes continue to be the biggest driving factor of sales in luxury fashion, accessories campaigns can often play second fiddle to seasonal ready-to-wear campaigns in terms of their scope and creativity in concepting and building out narrative. This season, however, saw an exciting push from some labels to capitalize on the opportunity offered by an accessories campaign and think more deeply about what the format can say about their brand. Many campaigns created an immersive aesthetic or engrossing narrative out of the unique identity of the accessories themselves.
Valentino and Alan Crocetti both brought their own spin to the accessories campaign trend of capturing mostly or entirely naked bodies clothed only the star accessories like bags, shoes, or jewelry, with very different, yet similarly successful and intimate, results.
Always on point when it comes to accessories campaigns, Gucci secured two spots in the list, with its “Valigeria” campaign in particular drawing out the totemic power of a monogrammed piece of Gucci luggage into a mystical and cinematic visual narrative.
