All that glitters is not gold, but sometimes it’s even better. Making a sparkling entrance as they step back into physical shows, the designers of Spring 2022 explored new ways to embody the glamor and shine of jewelry, while keeping the timeless allure of classic craftsmanship close at hand (and ear, and wrist, and neck).
Valentino, Givenchy, and especially Balmain explored big, thick chain links. Matthew M. Williams of Givenchy is known to have a particular focus on hardware in designing his collections, and this carried across his new collection’s sharply focused jewelry.
While gold, silver, and diamonds are of course forever, this season’s jewelry saw an explosion of color – an appropriate blossoming for a meaningful spring. From Dior‘s chunky 60’s rings to Anna Sui‘s brilliant handcrafted Perler-bead pieces that perfectly rounded out a groovy 70’s collection, small details of color were never far if you knew where to look.
Two iconic designers who always eschew trends, Rick Owens and Yohji Yamamoto both brought their signature progressive visions to necklaces as only they can.
Here is the best jewelry of the Spring 2022 season as selected by The Impression.
