Bottega Veneta and Flos Reimagine Gino Sarfatti’s Iconic Model 600 Lamp

The Collaboration Puts a Distinctive Spin on an Icon of Italian Lighting Design

Bottega Veneta has teamed up with Italian lighting design brand Flos to create a special edition of the legendary Model 600 table lamp, originally designed by Gino Sarfatti. This collaboration merges Sarfatti’s groundbreaking vision with Bottega Veneta’s craftsmanship, offering a modern take on the 1966 design.

Gino Sarfatti, born in Venice in 1912, is celebrated as one of Italy’s most innovative lighting designers. Over his prolific career, he designed more than 600 luminaires, challenging traditional lighting design with his experimental approach to materials, forms, and technology. In 1939, he founded Arteluce, a Milan-based company known for producing both lamps and custom lighting solutions for major projects, including the Palazzo Bianco in Genoa and Teatro Regio in Turin. Arteluce was acquired by Flos in 1973, further cementing Sarfatti’s legacy.

The Model 600 lamp, introduced in 1966 – the same year Bottega Veneta was founded in Venice – showcased Sarfatti’s talent for rethinking conventional designs. The lamp featured a groundbreaking flexible base, filled with lead shot pellets and encased in smooth leather, allowing it to adapt to various surfaces and positions. This innovative use of soft materials paralleled Bottega Veneta’s own early leather designs, known for their fluid shapes and refined textures.

In this reinterpretation, Flos and Bottega Veneta have reimagined the leather base with Bottega Veneta’s signature Intrecciato weaving technique, as well as an Intreccio Foulard version. While retaining the iconic shape of the original bulb, the updated lamp is equipped with advanced LED technology, blending tradition with modern functionality.

Designed for use on tables or floors, the new Model 600 delivers a soft yet precise light, offering both direct and indirect lighting options depending on the angle of its reflector. Available in small and large sizes, the lamp comes in an array of colors, including black, grey, red, emerald green, and the distinctive Bottega Veneta green.
