Dior

Spring 2020 Ad Campaign

Dior has released a colorful campaign in celebration of their Men’s Pre-Fall 2020 collection.

The collection draws influence from a wide range of styles and eras, but is especially eye-catching in its use of pattern and color. Floral and snakeskin patterns creep across bucket hats and button ups, while repeated Dior logos adorn colorful knit sweaters.

Photography by Steven Meisel sets the colors of the collection against a patterned black-and-white background. The design echoes the one created by iconic designer Shawn Stussy for the brand’s runway show in Miami. Stussy’s 90’s surf heritage is one of the influences for the collection, and the aesthetic works well to set off the collection.

The campaign succeeds in translating a runway show into a series of still images. It can be difficult to match the physical energy of a live show, but when it comes to the visual energy of this campaign, the writing is on the wall.
