The Perfect Peplum

Fall 2026 RTW Fashion Trend

A favourite on the runways during the 2010s – think Stella McCartney, Gile (Deacon), Lanvin – the peplum is once again making its presence felt for fall. The divisive style, that whittles the waist and emphasises the hips, was the perfect antidote to balance out the strong-shouldered  tailoring and outerwear that came with the return of the 1980s. Its strong fit and flare shape also aligned with the ladylike theme by amplifying the hourglass silhouette. As the runways have been awash with a significantly slimmed down model casting, the uptick in peplums could also be a way to create volume and curves where they were naturally absent.

Adorning the waists of models across all four cities the peplum was reworked into romantic tiers at Chloé and Tory Burch, precise tailoring at Givenchy and Moschino, seamed denim from Proenza Schouler and Aknvas, and playfully trimmed with fur on knitted henleys at Stella McCartney. Jonathan Anderson made the peplum the star of his Dior show, as exaggerated Bar jackets with structured peplum hems were accented in shearling, layers of lace and chiffon, and short-pile fur.
