Prada Partners with UNFPA to Support Woman Artisans in Mexico

“Fashion Expressions: The Stories She Wears” Culminates with a Special Event in Mexico City

The Prada Group and the United Nations Population Fund are set to celebrate the culmination of their fashion training program, “Fashion Expressions: The Stories She Wears,” with an intimate event in Mexico City on Wednesday, July 31st. The evening will feature a panel discussion, an exhibition showcase, and conclude with a cocktail reception.

Launched in May 2022, “Fashion Expressions: The Stories She Wears” aims to equip young women with essential knowledge and practical skills in the fashion industry while also promoting women’s empowerment and sexual reproductive health. The program was expanded to Querétaro state, Mexico, in September 2023.

The initiative has benefited 30 women embroiderers and weavers, aged 18 to 50, who are predominantly mothers working as artisans in small, family-run home workshops. These women often receive assistance from their children and support their families through the sale of artisanal items at local markets in Querétaro.

Over a six-month training period, UNFPA Mexico, in collaboration with the local non-profit organization Nest, provided participants with the opportunity to showcase their cultural heritage while gaining a deeper understanding of their sexual and reproductive rights. The training also included opportunities for collaboration with companies under the mentorship of fashion professionals.
